Registered Psychologist

As a counsellor, I recognize my privilege and am honoured to potentially be a part of your journey. While I have expertise in mental health, I recognize that I am not an expert in you. Working with me means that I see you as the expert of your lived experiences. At the end of the day, we are all unique in our wants, needs, and desires, and what works for some does not mean it will always work for everyone. My aim is to work with you and meet you where you are at so we can figure out what is working, what needs to change, and how we can get there together. After all, this is your journey. Counselling with me is a collaborative process where your voice, opinions, and experiences matter, are important, and are valid.

As a registered psychologist, I mainly practice from a trauma-informed and humanistic perspective, with a mixed approach to help meet your needs. I want you to feel empowered in this process and build confidence in yourself, so my approaches are collaborative. I have experience and work with children and youth from the ages of 4 and up and work with adults, with specializations around the various forms of trauma, chronic illnesses and body image, and mental health complexities.

Being trauma-informed means that I recognize that sometimes our life experiences shapes and changes the way we experience things, that trauma/stress can change our healing process, and may mean you need more time to build that trust between each other. But I am willing to build that trust so that together we can bring you closer to your goals and the life you want.

Teens
I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to spend a lot of my career so far working with teens, and it has become an area of passion for me...read more
Much of my work is pulled through my experience working in group homes, with high-risk youth, and inner-city youth, where the foundation of our work together comes from creating a relationship with one another and creating a sense of safety so that we can build trust. I strive to work alongside my clients in order to promote a sense of empowerment, self-worth, self-awareness, and support their own learning as they navigate life. Additionally, meeting teens where they are at is important to me, meaning I draw from a variety of modalities including recognizing the limitations of “talk therapy”. In these cases we can engage in therapy through art or play as a way to communicate and create meaningful change.

Children
Children have this wonderful curiosity of the world and a resilience like no other. Pulling from my experiences of early childhood development and working as a behavior therapist within schools and preschools, I have come to appreciate the unique approach to working with children...read more
Building on the foundations of a therapeutic relationship, I approach my work with kids through playfulness, curiosity, and providing developmentally appropriate information in a manner that supports your child’s own unique qualities and needs. Additionally, I feel it is important to work in collaboration with caregivers and parents in order to best support your child and their progress as a lot of growth and change happens outside of the therapy room and connection is a huge foundation for children.

Trauma
Trauma-informed care is defined as practices that promote a culture of safety, empowerment, and healing. Being trauma-informed means that as a practitioner I recognize that sometimes our life experiences shapes and changes the way we experience things, that trauma can make our healing process a little more difficult to navigate, and that it may take more time to build that trust between each other...read more
With this in mind, my aim is to meet you where you are at and follow your lead through this journey. Pulling from my experiences from working within group homes, with inner city populations, and working previously with the Sexual Assault Center, I recognize that healing is an up and down journey where a lot of unexpected responsibility in healing is placed on your shoulders. My job is in part to help understand what is happening with our body in the context of trauma, but also to help shift that responsibility and walk with you as you navigate this chapter so that there is room to experience the other parts of you that make you, you.
