Wellness Matters Webinar — Trauma & How to Restore Goodness to the Body

This webinar will look how a sense of overwhelm, or having “a lot on your plate" so to speak, can develop in our nervous systems. Though trauma can be experienced from a one-time event at any point in our lives, this talk will look at how it can develop in our childhoods from a body-centred, emotional perspective to cause what we typically refer to as developmental trauma and then effect us in later life. In this webinar, you will learn:

  • how trauma affects the nervous system

  • how unresolved developmental trauma leads to difficulties, such as anxiety and depression

  • the relationship between attachment and trauma

  • 3 highly effective tools to calm the nervous system and restore goodness in the body

Finally, you will come to see that trauma can be healed and goodness in the body can be restored.

Charlene is a Certified Somatic Experiencing® (SE) practitioner and approaches this webinar from this body-centred perspective while weaving in important elements of attachment theory.

Here is a little video that illustrates some of what I often teach people in session to help their nervous system feel a sense of calm. In this 6 min. video with Dr. Peter Levine called Two Simple Techniques That Can Help Trauma Patients Feel Safe Peter shows us a couple self-holding ideas to help us to feel a sense of containment and safety within our own bodies. With time and practice, most everyone I’ve worked with is able to find a “shift” in their nervous system to a more calm, settled place inside their body.

Here is a 27 min introduction to Somatic Experiencing® called Nature’s Lessons in Healing Trauma: An Introduction to Somatic Experiencing® that helps people get a sense of how SE® can help discharge traumatic energy from the nervous system and restore goodness. At around minute fourteen you will see the polar bear demonstrating the active completion of a survival response that was shared in the webinar.

It is one of my favourite psycho-educational resources.
